22 Oct 2010 Álvaro Parente and Nelson Piquet Jr together in the Open GT
The last Open GT championship event played in Barcelona on 29-31 October will feature one of the best team of young drivers of the moment, consisted of Alvaro Parente and Nelson Piquet Jr at the wheel of a Ferrari 430 GT2 from Aurora Racing Team.
After the tests carried out in Portugal, it is now time to put in the competition this team, which ART managed to secure to be present in last race of the GT Open championship, throwing therefore the challenge to be part, in 2011, of the most competitive and mediatic GT championship in Europe. With the presence already assured of the WRC pilots team, Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Sordo at the wheel of a Porsche in the GT3 class, Alvaro Parente and Nelson Piquet will enhance even more the event’s program held on the Circuit of Catalunya, being one of the major candidates to the final victory in the premier class, the GT2. The conquest of the Spanish GT Championship in Jerez, as well as, the second place, the team showed ART’s good preparation, when it was introduced in 2010, having also leaded with Álvaro PArente, the Open GT race, which was held simultaneously with the CEGT. In the first race of the championship, held in Valencia, Alvaro Parente at the wheel of a car with different specifications from its "siblings", the most powerful cars in the Open GT, he led the entire race until the pilots’ exchange, and the team still achieved a stunning second place in the overall. With a successful career in the formulas, which the excellent test with the Renault F1 stand up, as well as, the two titles won in the World Series by Renault and in the British F3, Alvaro Parente has always known how to use all opportunities, which have been presented to him, facing all competitions the same way (GP2 Series, Super League Formula, Le Mans Series and CEGT), obtaining excellent results, especially this year’s brilliant 2nd place in SPA - Francorchamp in his return to GP2 after a year, the pole- position won on his debut in the Le Mans Series race and the mastery shown in CEGT, as well as, the big races and victories in Super League Formula, despite the bad luck that dogged him. This new invitation to the Open GT race is thus seen by Alvaro Parente, as "another excellent opportunity to show my value in any car, especially being part of a team that always gave me lots of love and to be able to count on the companionship of a great pilot and friend, as Nelsinho". The goals are identical to all races and competitions in which he participates, being part of them "win both races and reach the pole, knowing that we have the handicap of not having participated in this championship and therefore, we are underdeveloped in comparison to the other teams in terms of tuning ". F1 Renault driver, British F3 champion and ranked second in GP2 behind Lewis Hamilton, Nelson Piquet Jr, he has always shown to be another great talent from Brazil, always achieving outstanding results in any competition that he is present. This year he is competing in the league that gives access to NASCAR and to the stock car in Brazil, Nelson Piquet Jr. is still interested in competing in Europe, whenever he gets the chance to do so, and therefore, ART’s invitation was promptly received, by pursuing the work already done in testing made in the early summer, when he made his first contact with staff and with the car. Nelson Piquet Jr " We announced this race six months ago and I’m really excited that now the weekend is finally here! It will be really great to race at Barcelona again, it’s a nice circuit and one I know well. It will also be good to race together with Alvaro [Parente] who is a very good driver who I get on well with. I hope that we can get a strong result with Aurora Racing in my first GT race." |
18 Oct 2010 Francisco Cruz Martins, Champion of Spain in GT
The new Champion of Spain in GT is Francisco Cruz Martins, regular partner of Alvaro Parente, who is not champion, but third place, because at the Estoril race could not attend due to other sporting commitments. But victory is not only of Cruz Martins, is actually for the whole team, who have mastered all season with great authority.
